What is it? It’s a blog aggregation website that pulls content – with permission from authors – from other blog sites. It’s in testing phase at the moment using old copy but we’re hoping it will be a place for the best journalism in the country – like a Vanity Fair or Huffington Post.
This is an invitation-only site meaning only professional journalists, or area specialists who write clearly on their subject, can contribute to it. Once we have your permission, we stream your blog directly into the site so there’s no extra work for you.
It is also a community site so we’d like to hear what YOU would like to see on the site. For example, we’d like to develop an advice area for journalists including: pitching advice for freelancers, copyright issues, becoming a multi-platform journalist etc. If you’d like to contribute to this section to help other journos, or share your experiences, that would be brilliant!
What’s in it for you? It should increase the profile of your work and it places you within a community of highly talented journalists and area specialists.
Why am I doing it? Journalists – particularly freelancers – need a place to show what they can do and a way to distinguish themselves from other bloggers. (Bloggers are great but there are lots of them and this is a way to distinguish journos from the mob). There are so many incredible, talented, creative journos out there and it’d be
great to find them all in one place.
How is it funded? This is not a commercial enterprise. We are putting our time and money into this because we think it is needed. We might put up some ads and Google ads but chances are, we will never recoup our costs.
Are you eligible? If you have a blog you are eligible. However, you must own your copyright (freelancers generally own their copyright) or have permission from your employer to stream it into journalist.ie. We never own your copyright or content, we just republish it.
Where will my work appear? We’ll have dedicated sections such as current affairs, business & economics (of course!), science, technology, art & culture, food, politics, money…and more.
By the way, you don’t have to stream your entire blog. We can take posts from particular categories or posts with specific tags.
So, please let us know if you’re interested in becoming part of the journalist.ie community.
Thanks! margaret@clearink.ie
We’d also welcome ideas on who else we should invite. (They have to be highly experienced journalists with a blog.)
